Professional Learning Community Coordinator
Michael Retallick, the PBEA Professional Learning Community coordinator, heads the Agricultural Education and Studies department at Iowa State University. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in agricultural education from ISU, and a master’s degree in agribusiness at Kansas State University.
His areas of expertise include: the study of experiential learning as it relates to formal education at both the secondary and higher education levels; early field experiences and internships; teaching and learning in the classroom and via distance education; and also Science With Practice and learning communities.
Retallick is currently conducting research in the areas of contemporary methods of utilizing experiential learning in the secondary classroom; evaluating the role of reflection and critical thinking in experiential learning; and the Preflection, Experience, Reflection and Transfer (PERT) approach to experiential learning in formal education.
